Pakistan’s digital landscape has grown rapidly over the past decade, and sitting at the heart of that growth is ProPakistani.pk — the country’s leading technology and telecom news platform. Covering everything from smartphone launches and broadband policies to fintech developments and government regulations, ProPakistani commands a loyal audience of millions of readers every month.
But even established media giants can have technical SEO blind spots. We recently ran a full automated SEO audit on propakistani.pk using Smart SEO Pro — our professional-grade website scanner — and the results tell an interesting story. This article breaks down exactly what was found, what it means in the real world, and how ProPakistani (or any news site of similar scale) can close the gaps.
The Audit Snapshot: Score 21/100 — Grade F
At first glance, a score of 21 out of 100 sounds alarming for a site as prominent as ProPakistani. But before drawing conclusions, it’s essential to understand why the score is low — because the context matters enormously.
Our scanner, like Googlebot, hit a Cloudflare security challenge page during the crawl. This is a bot-protection mechanism that ProPakistani uses to guard against automated traffic and DDoS attacks. When a scanner or search engine bot encounters this page, it sees a stripped-down HTML page rather than the actual website content — which is exactly what happened here.
The result? The scanner evaluated the Cloudflare interstitial rather than ProPakistani’s real homepage. This is a nuance that most basic SEO tools fail to flag — but our report makes it transparent. Here’s what the raw data showed:
| Category | Critical | Warnings | Info | Passed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Tags | 2 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Headings | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Images | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Links | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Performance | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
| Technical | 1 | 1 | 0 | 3 |
| Social | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Schema | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Mobile | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Total: 4 Critical Issues · 7 Warnings · 4 Informational · 8 Passed
Critical Issue #1: Page Set to NOINDEX
The scan detected a noindex, nofollow directive in the robots meta tag. In normal circumstances, this would be catastrophic — it would tell Google and all other search engines to completely ignore the page and follow no links from it.
In ProPakistani’s case, this is the Cloudflare challenge page intentionally blocking indexation — which is actually the correct behaviour. You don’t want Google indexing your security challenge page. However, this does raise an important operational question: is Googlebot being blocked by this challenge? If Cloudflare is set to challenge all bots rather than just suspicious ones, Google’s crawlers could be impacted.
Recommendation: Whitelist verified Google and Bing bots in Cloudflare’s firewall rules. This allows legitimate search engine crawlers through while still protecting against malicious traffic. Google provides a guide to verifying Googlebot IPs that Cloudflare users should reference.
Critical Issue #2: HTTP 403 Error Response
Our crawler received a 403 Forbidden status code when attempting to access the page. A 403 error means the server understood the request but actively refused to fulfil it — in this case, because Cloudflare is blocking automated scanners.
For any website where this happens with legitimate search engine bots, it means those pages will not be indexed. Google’s John Mueller has confirmed multiple times that pages returning 403 errors will be dropped from the index over time.
Recommendation: Ensure that Cloudflare’s Bot Fight Mode or Under Attack Mode is not permanently enabled. Use Cloudflare’s Bot Management settings to configure rules that allow search engine bots through under normal conditions.
Critical Issue #3: Missing Meta Description
The scanned page returned no meta description whatsoever. While this is a consequence of the Cloudflare page being evaluated rather than the real site, it’s still worth addressing as a principle for all news and media websites.
Meta descriptions don’t directly influence rankings, but they have a significant impact on click-through rates (CTR) in search results. Google often rewrites them — but only if it has quality content to draw from. Without a well-crafted meta description, Google may pull arbitrary text from your page body, which can result in ugly, off-message SERP snippets.
According to Moz’s SEO guide on meta descriptions, a compelling meta description should be 120–155 characters, include the primary keyword, and contain a value proposition that gives searchers a reason to click.
Recommendation: For a news site like ProPakistani, each article and category page should have a dynamically generated meta description. Most WordPress-based news sites use plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math to automate this at scale.
Critical Issue #4: Missing H1 Heading
The Cloudflare challenge page has no H1 heading — again, not a real reflection of ProPakistani’s content pages, but worth understanding as an SEO fundamental.
The H1 tag is the most important on-page heading signal. It tells search engines the primary topic of a page. Every single page on a website — whether a homepage, article, category, or about page — should have exactly one H1 that incorporates the page’s target keyword.
Recommendation: Audit your H1 structure across all templates. Use Google Search Console‘s coverage report to identify any pages that are being indexed without proper heading hierarchy.
Warning: Missing Canonical Tag
No canonical URL was detected on the scanned page. For a news website with thousands of articles, the canonical tag is critical for preventing duplicate content issues. News sites frequently have content accessible via multiple URLs — category archives, tag pages, pagination, AMP versions, and social sharing parameters can all create duplicate content problems.
According to Google’s official documentation on canonicalization, using a canonical tag is the most reliable way to signal which URL is the preferred version of a page.
Recommendation: Ensure all article pages, category pages, and paginated archives have a self-referencing canonical tag. If ProPakistani serves AMP pages, verify that both the AMP and non-AMP versions correctly point to each other.
Warning: No Sitemap Detected
Our scanner flagged that sitemap.xml was not found. Again, this is likely because the Cloudflare block prevented the scanner from accessing the root directory. However, sitemap configuration deserves attention for any large news site.
A well-structured sitemap is particularly important for news websites because:
- Google News requires a News Sitemap with specific tags like
<news:publication>and<news:publication_date> - Standard XML sitemaps should be split by content type (articles, categories, authors)
- Sitemaps should be submitted via Google Search Console and refreshed automatically as new content is published
Warning: Missing Open Graph Tags
The scan detected incomplete Open Graph (OG) tags — specifically missing og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url. These meta tags control how content appears when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and other social platforms.
For a media site that depends heavily on social sharing for traffic distribution, OG tags are non-negotiable. A missing og:image alone can result in plain-text link previews instead of rich image cards — significantly reducing click-through rates on social platforms.
Recommendation: Implement complete OG and Twitter Card tags on every page. This is typically handled via an SEO plugin on WordPress. Twitter Cards require twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image — none of which were present in the scan.
Warning: No Structured Data (Schema Markup)
No JSON-LD structured data was found on the scanned page. For news publishers, Schema markup is one of the highest-impact SEO improvements available. Properly implemented schema can unlock rich results in Google Search, including:
- Article rich snippets with publication dates and author bylines
- Breadcrumb trails in SERPs for better navigational clarity
- FAQ rich results for evergreen content pieces
- Organisation markup to establish E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness)
Google’s Structured Data documentation outlines exactly which schema types are supported for news publishers. The NewsArticle and Organization schema types are the most impactful starting points.
Warning: No Cache-Control Header
The scan found that no Cache-Control header was being served. This is a performance signal — without proper caching headers, browsers must re-download static assets (CSS, JS, images) on every page visit, resulting in slower load times.
Page speed is a confirmed Google ranking factor, and for a news site where readers often visit multiple articles in a session, caching can make a measurable difference to both user experience and Core Web Vitals scores. Google’s Web.dev guide on HTTP caching is the definitive reference for implementing this correctly.
What ProPakistani Is Actually Doing Right
Despite the low scanner score — which, as established, reflects the Cloudflare challenge page rather than the real site — ProPakistani demonstrates several strong practices that media sites should emulate:
- ✅ HTTPS Enabled — The site runs entirely over HTTPS, a basic but essential ranking signal
- ✅ robots.txt Present — A robots.txt file was detected, indicating controlled crawl management
- ✅ Mobile Viewport Configured — The correct mobile viewport meta tag is in place
- ✅ GZIP Compression Active — The server is compressing HTML, reducing page load size
- ✅ HTML Language Declared —
lang="en-US"is set, signalling to search engines the language of the content
The Real SEO Picture: Context Is Everything
It would be a mistake to dismiss ProPakistani.pk as an SEO-poor website based on a score of 21. In reality, ProPakistani is one of Pakistan’s most authoritative online publications, with a massive backlink profile, high domain authority, and consistent presence in Google News.
This audit is a perfect illustration of why automated SEO scores must always be interpreted in context. A Cloudflare security gate, a staging environment, or a password-protected page will always return poor scores — even if the underlying website is technically excellent.
The real value of running an audit like this lies in identifying the structural issues that apply universally to news sites at scale: canonical tags, schema markup, OG tags, and bot-accessible crawl paths. These are the areas where even well-established publishers leave ranking opportunities on the table.
Action Plan: Priority SEO Fixes for News Websites
Based on our audit findings, here is a prioritised action plan relevant to ProPakistani and any large-scale news or media website:
- Whitelist search engine bots in Cloudflare — Ensure Googlebot, Bingbot, and other legitimate crawlers are not blocked by security rules
- Implement NewsArticle schema on all articles — Add JSON-LD with headline, author, datePublished, dateModified, and publisher fields
- Add canonical tags to all templates — Prevent duplicate content dilution across archive pages, tag pages, and paginated URLs
- Complete Open Graph and Twitter Card implementation — Ensure all four OG tags and all four Twitter Card tags are present on every page
- Submit a News Sitemap to Google Search Console — Use a dedicated News Sitemap with timestamps to maximise article indexation speed
- Enable Cache-Control headers on static assets — Set appropriate max-age values to improve repeat visit performance
- Audit meta descriptions across high-traffic pages — Ensure category pages, author pages, and evergreen articles all have compelling, keyword-rich descriptions

This audit was conducted on 17 June 2026 using Smart SEO Pro’s automated website scanner. The score reflects the page returned at the time of crawl. Due to Cloudflare bot protection active on propakistani.pk, the scanner evaluated the security challenge page rather than the live website content. The recommendations in this article are applicable to news and media websites generally.
