Every website is different — different industries, different audiences, different tech stacks. But when it comes to SEO, the same fundamental mistakes appear time and time again regardless of where a site is based or what it sells. We ran Smart SEO Pro audits on five real websites from around the world, and the results are a masterclass in what holds websites back from ranking on Google.
In this article we break down each audit in detail — scores, critical issues, what was done right, and a personalised fix plan for each site. Whether you run a local business or a global platform, there’s something here for you.
The 5 Websites Audited
| Website | Industry | Score | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| georgiactsa.org | Academic / Research | 54/100 | D |
| iwasingapore.org | Non-profit / Community | 53/100 | D |
| er2i-industrie.com | Industrial / Engineering | 74/100 | B |
| elxisenergy.com | Clean Energy / Tech | 83/100 | A |
| studiz.dk | Student Discounts / Denmark | 37/100 | F |
Scores range from 37 to 83 — a wide spread that illustrates just how differently websites approach SEO. Let’s dig into each one.
Audit #1: georgiactsa.org — Score 54/100 (Grade D)
Georgia CTSA is the website of the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance — a respected academic research organisation based in Atlanta, GA. Despite the authority of the institution behind it, the website’s SEO fundamentals leave a lot to be desired.
What the Audit Found
Critical: Missing Meta Description. The homepage has no meta description at all. For an academic institution competing for visibility on searches like “clinical translational science Georgia” or “CTSA Atlanta”, this is a missed opportunity. Google will either pull random text from the page body or display nothing — both outcomes reduce click-through rates from search results.
Warning: Title Too Long (71 characters). The page title reads “Home | Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance | Atlanta GA” — 11 characters over Google’s recommended 60-character limit. In SERPs, this will be truncated, cutting off “Atlanta GA” and reducing local relevance signals.
Warning: Missing Canonical Tag. Without a canonical URL, the site risks duplicate content issues — especially common on WordPress sites where the homepage is accessible via multiple URL variants (with and without trailing slash, HTTP vs HTTPS, www vs non-www).
Warning: No robots.txt. The scanner found no robots.txt file at the domain root. This means search engine crawlers have no directives and will crawl everything — including admin pages, login pages, or internal search results that should be blocked. According to Google’s robots.txt documentation, even a basic robots.txt is essential for every live website.
Warning: 20 Script Tags. Twenty separate JavaScript files are loading on the homepage. Each script is a potential render-blocking resource that delays page load — directly impacting Core Web Vitals scores, which Google uses as a ranking factor.
Warning: No Schema Markup. No JSON-LD structured data was found. For a research and academic organisation, Organization, Event, and Article schema could unlock rich results in Google Search and significantly improve SERP visibility.
What’s Working Well
✅ HTTPS is enabled. ✅ An XML sitemap was found. ✅ All 11 images have alt text. ✅ Strong internal linking with 75 internal links. ✅ Open Graph tags are fully implemented (4/4). ✅ HTML language is correctly set to English.
Priority Fix Plan
- Write a compelling meta description of 120–155 characters targeting primary keywords
- Shorten the page title to under 60 characters — e.g. “Georgia CTSA | Clinical Research Alliance – Atlanta”
- Add a self-referencing canonical tag to the homepage template
- Create a robots.txt file blocking admin and search pages
- Defer or async non-critical JavaScript to reduce render-blocking
- Implement Organisation and Event schema via JSON-LD
Audit #2: iwasingapore.org — Score 53/100 (Grade D)
IWA Singapore is the website of the Indian Women’s Association Singapore — a community organisation serving the Indian expatriate community in Singapore. The site scored 53/100, with two critical issues that alone are enough to damage its organic search performance significantly.
What the Audit Found
Critical: Missing Meta Description. Like georgiactsa.org above, no meta description is present. For a community organisation relying on people searching for “Indian women association Singapore” or “expat community Singapore”, the lack of a SERP snippet description is a real visibility problem.
Critical: No H1 Heading. This is a significant on-page SEO error. The H1 is the single most important on-page heading signal — it tells Google the primary topic of the page. Without it, the page has no clear keyword anchor and will struggle to rank for any targeted search term. As Moz’s on-page SEO guide explains, the H1 is one of the first elements crawlers evaluate when determining page relevance.
Warning: Missing Canonical Tag. Same risk as georgiactsa.org — no canonical URL means duplicate content vulnerability.
Warning: No XML Sitemap. Without a sitemap, search engines must discover pages by crawling internal links alone. For a community site with events, news, and gallery pages, a sitemap is essential for ensuring all content gets indexed. Submitting a sitemap via Google Search Console is a five-minute task with meaningful indexation benefits.
Warning: 21 Script Tags. Similar to the previous site, 21 JavaScript files are loading — a performance red flag that will hurt Core Web Vitals scores.
Warning: Incomplete Open Graph Tags. All four OG tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) are missing. When members share IWA Singapore events on Facebook or WhatsApp, links will appear as plain text rather than rich image cards — significantly reducing social engagement.
Warning: No Schema Markup. No structured data found. For a community organisation, Organization and Event schema are particularly valuable.
What’s Working Well
✅ HTTPS enabled. ✅ robots.txt found. ✅ GZIP compression active. ✅ All 8 images have alt text. ✅ Strong internal linking (58 links). ✅ Mobile viewport correctly configured.
Priority Fix Plan
- Add an H1 heading to every page template — starting with the homepage
- Write a meta description with a clear value proposition for the target audience
- Generate and submit an XML sitemap via Google Search Console
- Implement all four Open Graph tags (use a WordPress SEO plugin like Rank Math)
- Add canonical tags to prevent duplicate URL issues
- Reduce JavaScript load — audit and defer non-critical scripts
Audit #3: er2i-industrie.com — Score 74/100 (Grade B)
ER2I Industrie is a Moroccan company specialising in industrial installation studies, implementation, and industrial IT. With a score of 74/100, this site is performing solidly — but one critical issue is holding it back from an A grade.
What the Audit Found
Critical: No H1 Heading. Despite having four H2 subheadings, the page has no H1. This is the same issue as iwasingapore.org — and it’s arguably more impactful here because ER2I Industrie is a commercial website competing for B2B search terms like “industrial automation Morocco” or “electrical installation Casablanca”.
Warning: 18 Script Tags. Eighteen JavaScript files loading on the homepage — a performance issue that needs consolidation.
Warning: Incomplete Open Graph Tags. All four OG tags are missing. For a B2B company, LinkedIn sharing is particularly important — and without OG tags, shared links will not display properly.
Warning: No Schema Markup. Adding Organization and LocalBusiness schema would strengthen E-E-A-T signals and potentially unlock rich results for the company’s name in Google Search.
What’s Working Well
✅ Page title is set correctly. ✅ Meta description is present. ✅ Canonical URL is implemented. ✅ HTTPS enabled. ✅ GZIP compression active. ✅ robots.txt and XML sitemap both found. ✅ All 25 images have alt text. ✅ Cache-Control header is set.
ER2I Industrie has excellent technical foundations — fixing the H1 and adding schema would push this site to an A-grade audit very quickly.
Priority Fix Plan
- Add a single, keyword-rich H1 to the homepage — e.g. “Industrial Installation & Automation Solutions in Morocco”
- Implement all four Open Graph tags and Twitter Card tags
- Add Organisation and LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema
- Bundle and defer JavaScript to reduce the script count
Audit #4: elxisenergy.com — Score 83/100 (Grade A)
Elxis Energy is a clean energy company developing 24/7 electromagnetic power systems for homes, communities, and industry — with zero-emission energy parks and water solutions. At 83/100, this is the highest-scoring site in this audit roundup, and it shows in the detail.
What the Audit Found
Warning: Multiple H1 Tags (2). The page has two H1 headings — “THE NEW ERA OF” and “Elxis Energy — Sustainable Electromagnetic Power Solutions”. Having more than one H1 dilutes keyword signals and can confuse search engines about the primary topic. Every page should have exactly one H1.
Warning: Thin Content (279 words). The homepage contains only 279 words — below the 300-word threshold that Google often associates with thin or low-quality content. For a company in the emerging clean energy space, the homepage is an opportunity to establish topical authority with detailed, keyword-rich content. Google’s helpful content guidelines emphasise depth and expertise as key quality signals.
Warning: No Schema Markup. The site is missing JSON-LD structured data. For a clean energy innovator, Organization schema with founder details, social profiles, and business description would strengthen E-E-A-T significantly.
Info: No Images Found. The homepage has no images. While this keeps the page fast, it reduces engagement and means there are no image search opportunities. Relevant imagery or infographics would improve dwell time and visual appeal.
Info: No External Links. The page links nowhere externally. Citing credible sources — such as government energy agencies, peer-reviewed research, or international clean energy bodies — would boost topical trust and E-E-A-T.
What’s Working Well
✅ Excellent meta title and description. ✅ Canonical URL set correctly. ✅ HTTPS enabled. ✅ GZIP compression active. ✅ robots.txt and XML sitemap found. ✅ Full Open Graph implementation (4/4). ✅ Twitter Card set up correctly. ✅ Clean, fast HTML (9.7KB). ✅ Mobile viewport configured.
Elxis Energy is genuinely close to a perfect technical audit. A few content and structural tweaks would push this to 90+.
Priority Fix Plan
- Consolidate to a single H1 — remove or convert the second H1 to an H2
- Expand homepage content to 500+ words with keyword-rich, expert copy about electromagnetic energy solutions
- Add relevant images or an infographic with alt text
- Add 2–3 external links to authority sources (IEA, IRENA, DOE)
- Implement Organisation JSON-LD schema
Audit #5: studiz.dk — Score 37/100 (Grade F)
Studiz is a Danish student discount and student card platform. Unfortunately, this site returned the lowest score of the five — 37/100 — and for a very serious reason that goes beyond typical SEO issues.
What the Audit Found
Critical: HTTP 500 Server Error. When our scanner attempted to access the site, it returned a 500 Internal Server Error. This means the website was down or broken at the time of the audit. A 500 error is the most urgent issue any website can have — Google will not index pages that return server errors, and will eventually drop them from the index entirely if the error persists. According to Google’s documentation on HTTP errors, repeated 500 errors signal unreliability to Googlebot and accelerate deindexation.
Critical: Missing Meta Description. No meta description is present — though this is secondary to the 500 error, which must be fixed first.
Warning: No XML Sitemap. No sitemap was found. Combined with the server error, Google has no reliable way to discover or index this site’s content.
Warning: Missing Canonical Tag. No canonical URL on the page.
Warning: No Gzip/Brotli Compression. Pages are being served uncompressed, making them 60–80% larger than necessary.
Warning: No Cache-Control Header. No caching policy is in place, forcing browsers to re-download all assets on every visit.
Warning: Incomplete Open Graph Tags. All four OG tags are missing.
Warning: No Schema Markup. No structured data found.
Warning: 1 Image Missing Alt Text. One image (a 500 error SVG) has no alt text.
What’s Working
✅ HTTPS is enabled. ✅ robots.txt was found. ✅ Mobile viewport is configured.
Priority Fix Plan
- Fix the 500 server error immediately — check PHP error logs, database connectivity, and plugin conflicts. This is the absolute first priority before anything else
- Once live, write and add a meta description in Danish targeting student discount keywords
- Generate and submit an XML sitemap to Google Search Console
- Add canonical tags across all page templates
- Enable GZIP compression on the server
- Set appropriate Cache-Control headers for static assets
- Implement all four Open Graph tags and Twitter Card tags
- Add Organisation and WebSite schema markup
Key Takeaways: What These 5 Audits Teach Us
Across five very different websites — academic, community, industrial, clean energy, and student services — the same patterns emerge repeatedly. Here’s what every website owner should take away from this analysis:
1. Meta Descriptions Are Still Being Ignored
Three out of five sites in this audit had no meta description. This is one of the simplest, highest-impact SEO fixes available — it takes minutes and directly affects how your site appears in search results. There is no excuse for a live website to be missing a meta description in 2026.
2. The H1 Tag Remains Critical
Two sites had no H1 at all; one had two. The H1 is your page’s primary keyword signal to search engines. Every page needs exactly one, and it should contain your main target keyword naturally.
3. Schema Markup Is the Biggest Missed Opportunity
All five sites were missing structured data. Schema markup is one of the few remaining SEO tactics that still provides a genuine competitive edge — rich results, featured snippets, and knowledge panel entries all flow from properly implemented JSON-LD. It’s free to implement and Google provides comprehensive documentation to help you get started.
4. JavaScript Bloat Is a Universal Problem
Three of the five sites had 18–21 script tags loading on the homepage. Excessive JavaScript is a Core Web Vitals killer — it delays first contentful paint, increases total blocking time, and degrades user experience. Audit your scripts, defer what you can, and remove what you don’t need.
5. Server Health Is Non-Negotiable
Studiz.dk’s 500 error is a reminder that all the SEO in the world means nothing if your server is returning errors. Monitor your uptime, set up server alerts, and check your error logs regularly. Google’s crawl budget is finite — don’t waste it on error pages.
